Award-winning American poet Kim Addonizio wowed JCU students, faculty, and guests alike with her electrifying poetry reading on Monday, November 7th, in the Guarini Campus Aula Magna. She read poems from Tell Me, a National Book Award finalist, and What Is This Thing Called Love, as well as a selection from her most recent collection, Lucifer at the Starlite.

The middle portion of the program was a special treat for the Italians in the audience. Kim read poems from Lucifer at the Starlite in English, and then Art of Literary Translation professor Damiano Abeni followed each with his translation of the work.

Kim wrapped up the evening with a terrific performance of several blues tunes on her harmonica. An accomplished musician, she has been studying the blues harp for a decade now, and the audience didn’t hold back in letting her know how much they’d appreciated the evening.

One JCU student put it perfectly: “I didn’t know what to expect from this evening, but I’m sure glad I came.”
