Welcome Participants to JCU High School Model UN Conference!

Model UN logoJohn Cabot’s very own Model United Nations (MUN) Society is hosting the 2nd annual JCU MUN High School Conference this weekend. On the morning of Friday March 30th, two dozen Italian high school students along with members of JCU’s own MUN team embarked on a debate on the topic of Palestinian Statehood and Membership in the United Nations.

Ambassador Alberto Schepisi, Visiting Professor of Political Science, opened the conference with a lecture on the importance of the United Nations and diplomacy. An intense debate ensued, which opened the eyes of many people participating to the diversity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

On the evening before the debate, JCU Professor Luigi Sensi offered words on the conflict between Palestine and Israel, noting the sensitivity and complexity of the situation. He also spoke strongly about the role the United Nations plays in resolving international conflicts and offered insight to possible solutions for the future.

John Cabot’s MUN Board sincerely hopes that this weekend is fruitful with creative solutions to a complicated conflict. We also thank the University administration, Student Services and many other members of the JCU community for their continued support for our ever-expanding MUN program.
