Professor Federigo Argentieri Presents Paper at International Conference

The year 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Raul Wallenberg, the “Righteous Gentile” from Sweden who saved thousands of Jewish lives in Nazi-occupied Budapest, only to be arrested by Soviet troops and disappear in 1947 under still unclarified circumstances. This year is also the 20th anniversary of the death of the 1910-born Italian Giorgio Perlasca, who somehow continued Wallenberg’s activity in ever more difficult circumstances, achieving similar results but remaining still relatively unknown to the large public.

The international conference Giorgio Perlasca e Raoul Wallenberg Ricordando, sponsored, among others, by the Hungarian, Israeli and Swedish embassies to Italy, was held on October 25 and 26 at the University of Padova. Professor Argentieri’s contribution is entitled “Perlasca and Anti-Nazi Anticommunism.”

Federigo Argentieri teaches Political Science at John Cabot University and is Director of the Guarini Institute for Public Affairs.
