JCU Professor Silvia Scarpa Publishes Monograph

Earlier this month Professor Silvia Scarpa published with UniversItalia her monograph entitled “An introduction to international human rights standards for law enforcement authorities.”

The book is based on the experience that Professor Scarpa acquired as trainer and consultant in the framework of the Phare Twinning Project between the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri and the Turkish Jandarma. The initiative was entitled Training Jandarma Officers on European Human Rights Standards. She taught international human rights law to Jandarma Officials in Ankara (Turkey), drafted parts of Human Rights & Law Enforcement: A Manual for the Training of Police Forces, and contributed to editing the Human Rights Reference Publication.

Professor Scarpa, who is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science at JCU, is also the author of the book Trafficking in Human Beings: Modern Slavery (Oxford University Press, 2008). In Spring 2013 Professor Scarpa will be teaching PL 325, Human Trafficking and Contemporary Slavery at JCU.
