Read Carlo Sammarco’s (Business Administration, Class of 2014) testimonial about his internship in Shanghai:

“Last year I noticed an extremely interesting flyer on a table at John Cabot. It was calling for students interested in an internship in China – Shanghai or Beijing. I love to travel and try new things, and because of my interest in business I chose Shanghai, China’s financial center.

Shanghai is the most populated city on Earth, with over 23 million people, more than the entire country of Australia. It is an incredible sight to behold.

Chaotic and polluted, yet safe, Shanghai was a complete culture shock for me. One of the things that struck me is that China is essentially a ‘collectivist’ culture, meaning the group has priority over the individual. And yet, something is changing. China seems to be the most capitalist country in the world, with American stores and malls everywhere.

I worked for a company which imports Italian food products, selling them on both the internet and commercial stores. The company is very young, but – like many things in China – is growing at an unbelievable rate. They had just opened their first retail store and planned to expand to thirty within the year.

My experience was extremely enriching. I lived a new way of life, met diverse people, and learned about a culture different than my own. This is the best way to grow.”
