JCU Alumna Charlie Northrop Overturns Centuries of Tradition at Cambridge College

John Cabot University alumna Charlie Northrop has managed to overturn centuries of tradition at St. Catharine’s, a college of Cambridge University. Thanks to a successful campaign led by the transgender Cambridge student, college officials are rewriting the rules in order to allow women to wear trousers and men to wear skirts at formal dinners.

25-year-old Charlie, who transitioned from male to female in January 2015, is originally from Richmond, Indiana. She graduated from John Cabot University in 2011 with a major in Classical Studies before moving to Cambridge where she is studying for a Ph.D. in Classics.

St Catharine’s is believed to be the first college at the 800-year-old university to change its formal dress code, though others are now expected to follow suit.
