During the weekend of November 13-15, a delegation of 28 John Cabot students will take part in the 15th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Barcelona, Spain. Students will be covering three different roles, working as “young journalists” reporting daily on the event, assisting the event’s organizers with a number of tasks, or actually participating in the event’s sessions. The group also includes three delegates of the JCU Model of United Nations Society who were honored recently at the RomeMun conference.

JCU staff members Pilar Murguia, Director of Student Services, and Julia del Papa, Student Engagement Coordinator, said that it was not easy to select the students for the summit, as all applicants had impressive resumes. The final decision was made together with Associate Academic Dean Pamela Harris and the Guarini Institute for Public Affairs. The students selected are have described the possibility to take part in the summit as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and they are looking forward to the event with great enthusiasm.

In fact, students will have the opportunity to interact with the Nobel peace laureates and other students delegations from all over the world, thus becoming immersed in the peace advocacy community.

During last year’s edition of the World Summit in Rome, JCU students had the opportunity to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Alexandria Maloney, an International Affairs senior from the U.S., said, “Meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama was an eye-opening and empowering experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
