JCU Prof. Sorgner Participates in "Politics and Aesthetics" Conference

Professor of Philosophy Stefan Lorenz Sorgner will present a paper during Roma Tre University’s two-day conference “Politics and Aesthetics” on April 4-6, 2016.

Prof. Sorgner is one of the world’s leading post- and transhumanist philosophers. He joined John Cabot’s faculty in Spring 2016 after teaching at a number of universities across Germany and Austria. He is currently the director and co-founder of the Beyond Humanism Network, Research Fellow at the Ewha Institute for the Humanities at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and a Fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET).

During the conference, Prof. Sorgner will discuss Jaime del Val’s project “Metabody” as a challenge to politics regarding human dignity. The five-year project started in July 2013, with the support of the European Commission and the participation of 28 partners from 14 countries. “Metabody” is a critical study of cultural homogenization, social control, and global surveillance in today’s Information society.

The conference will be held in German and Italian. Other speakers include Dario Gentili, Milena Massalongo, Nikolaus Mueller-Schoell, Gianluca Paolucci, Tanja van Hoorn, and Ute Weidenhiller. The presentations will be moderated by Giovanni Sampaolo and Marco Federici.

Professor Sorgner’s presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 5 at 10 am.
