UFWH Aims to Make Fighting Hunger a Core Value of JCU
Universities Fighting World Hunger was founded at John Cabot University in the Spring 2010 semester by students Valentina Barzotti and Mary Rideout, with the collaboration of Professor Alessandro Signorini and staff member Corrine Sabbatucci.
The mission of the UFWH club is to create a learning environment for the JCU community by raising awareness of global hunger and acting against it to help those in need.
Although there are many UFWH chapters around the globe, including the founding chapter at Auburn University, JCU’s club is the only one with the unique opportunity to work directly with the United Nations World Food Programme. The WFP’s Rome location has always allowed JCU to collaborate with this important international organization – from on-going internships for JCU students to the honor of having the WFP Executive Director, Ms. Josette Sheeran, deliver the commencement address at the 2009 JCU graduation.
Since its founding, UFWH has been one of JCU’s most active clubs and has organized numerous educational and fundraising activities including benefit concerts, the gathering signatures for the “1 billion Hungry” UN Petition, and the organizing the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, just to name a few.
This semester the UFWH is sponsoring 3 events and will continue to announce more:
