Winners of Italy Reads 2011 Student Video Contest Announced

First prize winners, Liceo “Newton,” Class IV-F, Professor Carlos Dews and Gina Marie Spinelli

JCU Professor of English and Director of Italy Reads Carlos Dews welcomed a joyous crowd of high school students in the Aula Magna Regina on December 15th for the Italy Reads 2011 Student Video Contest Awards Ceremony. In his welcome speech, he pointed out the extraordinary creativity, linguistic capability, acting and technical skills demonstrated by these students. Italy Reads received 24 entries to the contest.

Students from local area high schools, lead by teachers participating in Italy Reads 2011, created short films of their interpretations of Carson McCullers’s novel The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. Professor Carlos Dews and Gina Marie Spinelli, JCU Academic Administrative Assistant and coordinator of Italy Reads, announced the winners of the contest.

The winners were:
First Prize: Liceo “Newton,” Class IV-F, Prof. Cinzia Cetraro
Second Prize: Liceo “Newton,” Class III-D, Prof. Cinzia Cetraro
Special Prize for Exceptional Artistic Merit: Liceo “Innocenzo XII,” Class IV-B, Prof. Fortuna Pappalardo
Finalist: Liceo “Pascal,” Class III-C, Prof. Anne-Marie Peduto
Finalist: Liceo “Keplero,” Class IV-G, Prof. Antonella Nifosi
