Professor James Schwarten to Translate Dacia Maraini's Play Stravaganza

After his English translation of Dacia Maraini’s theatrical piece titled Il Respiro Leggero dell’Abruzzo (which was performed in a bilingual edition this summer as part of Maraini’s “Festival Nazionale Teatro di Gioia” in the Marsica region of Abruzzo), JCU Professor James Schwarten has been contacted by the well-known Italian writer to also translate her play Stravaganza, which will be performed by a London theater troupe. Stravanganza draws its artistic inspiration from Italy’s “Basaglia Law” (Legge Basaglia, 180/1978), which effectively closed mental asylums in Italy.

Prof. Schwarten teaches Italian Literature in Translation and Italian Language at JCU.
