The John Cabot Community Joins Marquette University in Mourning Loss of Student Andrew Keith Carr
John Cabot University would like to express its deepest condolences to the family of Marquette University visiting student Andrew Keith Carr, who died accidentally in Rome on June 11.
President Franco Pavoncello and the entire JCU community join Keith’s family and friends and Marquette University in mourning Andrew’s passing and honoring his memory.
The following is a letter from Marquette University President Rev. Scott R. Pilarz to the Marquette community:
Dear Marquette community,
I am writing you today with great sadness. One of our students studying abroad in Rome, Andrew Keith
Carr, passed away last night after falling from a ledge on the banks of a river in Rome. Andrew was
walking with friends, who said he lost his balance and slipped.
Keith was a junior studying operations and supply chain management in the College of Business Administration,
who was frequently on the dean’s list for his academic performance. He was a recipient
of the Ignatius and Magis scholarships, a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and a participant on the
university’s Quidditch team.
His light only graced this campus for a short time, but his memory will live in his family, his friends and
our Marquette community forever.
We are working with John Cabot University to provide support services and on-site counseling to
Keith’s roommates and friends in Rome. Counseling services and Campus Ministry support are also
available here on campus for all faculty, staff and students.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Keith’s family and friends. In this time of overwhelming sadness, I
know that we will gather together to support each other in our grief and to pay tribute to Keith’s
memory.
Sincerely,
Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.
President
Marquette University
