This summer was a heated season for the John Cabot MUN Society. At the end of May, Club President and Vice-President Francisco Infante and Iglika Mancheva journeyed to Paris, where they took part in the Paris International Model United Nations Conference, organized by some of the city’s most prestigious universities.

Francisco served as chair to the Security Council, whose members discussed the reform of non-state military organizations. Iglika represented the Republic of Guatemala and won the “Most Outstanding Delegate” award.

This rewarding MUN experience allowed JCU MUN Society members to establish friendly ties with the PIMUN Staff! The MUN Society is looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with their Parisian colleagues!

In July JCU student Neal Huddon-Cossar joined The European International Model United Nations 2013 in The Hague, Netherlands, where some of the most important international institutions are located. Neal was part of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Italian Republic and received an Honorable Mention during Closing Ceremony.

“The Conference was an extremely rewarding experience, both intellectually and socially. I had the opportunity to get a taste of what it is like to be a delegate for the United Nations while working with bright and inspirational young people from all over the world. However, I must say that the most memorable moments of the conference happened outside of the debate sessions.

During dinners and nights out, I was able to converse with students from all corners of the globe. From speaking with students from Cairo about their views on the current political turmoil in Egypt to learning a Greek student’s perspective on the Eurozone Crisis and its related austerity measures, I quickly realized that these are the moments that make the Model United Nations Society such a special organization!”
