Congratulations Fares Cheikh Moussa, New Muay Thai World Champion!
On Saturday and Sunday November 2nd and 3rd, 2013, JCU student El Cheikh Fares Cheikh Moussa participated in the Martial Arts Unified World Championship, hosted at Marina di Carrara in Tuscany.
Reportedly over 5,000 fighters of different martial arts backgrounds represented 113 countries in the 40,000 square meters arena.
Fares, who hails from Lebanon, officially prepared only two weeks for this fight by training three times a day 7 days a week while working and studying for midterms! However, he has been practicing Muay Thai, a martial art from Thailand, for the past six years. Having never lost a fight, Fares was under a lot of pressure in the finals as he came up against his Italian opponent who was also undefeated.
In the end however, Fares proved victorious and secured the title of World Champion in Muay Thai for himself. When asked what he took away from this experience, Fares simply explained that it merely confirmed his personal philosophy, “when you have the will to do something, you do it.”
On behalf of John Cabot University, congratulations, Fares!
