JCU Welcomes Freshmen from Democracy Prep Public Schools in NYC
On April 16, John Cabot University was pleased to welcome 50 freshmen from Democracy Prep Charter High School and Democracy Prep Harlem High School in New York City.
The success of the Democracy Prep Public Schools, whose motto is “Work Hard, Go to College, Change the World!” proves that demographics do not determine destiny and that low-income students can be successful in the college of their choice. There are currently nine high-performing Democracy Prep schools in New York and New Jersey, serving about 2,300 citizen-scholars, most of them from economically-disadvantaged households.
In order to graduate, Democracy Prep seniors must be accepted to at least two universities or colleges.
International travel is an important component of the curriculum at Democracy Prep. In addition to Italy, students have had the opportunity to travel to England, Ecuador, Korea, and South Africa.
JCU Director of Marketing and Enrollment Danette Anderson welcomed the students and chaperones and explained the advantages of earning a degree or studying abroad at an American university in Rome. Student Ambassadors took the students on a tour of both campuses and answered the students’ many questions.
John Cabot University wishes the students at Democracy Prep all the best for their high school career and hopes to welcome many of them back to Rome in the future.
