Meet JCU's Summer 2014 Visiting Professors
John Cabot University is fortunate to have many distinguished visiting professors who will be teaching in our two summer sessions. Some of them are featured below:
Summer I 2014:
Anthony R. Fellow: COM 220 Media, Culture and Society
Dr. Fellow is chair of the California State Fullerton Department of Communications, the third largest in the United States. Fellow received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California. He writes political and newspaper columns on politics and water issues, and is a frequent speaker at national and international media conferences. In 2007, Fellow was named a Fulbright Scholar by the U.S. President’s Commission. He has written three books, including American Media History.
David Kiefer: MA 208 Statistics I
Dr. Kiefer has been a Professor in the Economics Department of the University of Utah since 2000. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1974. His fields of interest include micro and macroeconomics, econometrics, game theory, and government behavior. He is the author of two books, as well as numerous professional journal publications and reviews.
Marco Rimanelli: PL 372 International Diplomacy and the United Nations
Dr. Rimanelli is Professor of International Studies at St. Leo University, Florida, where he also served as Director of the International Studies BA Program. Professor Rimanelli obtained his Ph.D. in U.S.-International Security & European Affairs at John Hopkins University in 1989. He is the author of seven books as well as numerous articles. He was named 2013-2014 Fulbright U.S. Scholar with a grant for graduate teaching in international relations at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium), and for research on NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the European Union.
Michael Seltzer: MGT 360 Public and Nonprofit Management
Prof. Seltzer is a distinguished lecturer at Baruch College of the City University of New York, where he teaches in the Master’s Program in Nonprofit Management. His teaching and research focuses on fundraising for nonprofit organizations. He holds a B.A. from Syracuse University in International Relations and African Studies.
Christopher J. Speicher: BUS 305 Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Dr. Speicher is an assistant professor at Marywood University, Pennsylvania, where he is also Associate Director of Graduate and Professional Studies in the Department of Business and Managerial Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Temple University. His research interests include entrepreneurship and small business, and he also works as a consultant both in the U.S. and internationally.
Julie A. Woodzicka: PS 399 Special Topics in Psychology: Stereotyping, Prejudice, and Discrimination
Dr. Woodzicka has been a Professor of Psychology at Washington and Lee University, Virginia since 2012. She received her Ph.D. from Boston College in 2000. Her research interests include stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. She has published several works in academic journals such as the European Journal of Psychology and the Journal of Social Psychology.
Summer II 2014:
Andrew Cotto: CW/JRN 346 Creative Writing Workshop: Travel Writing
Andrew Cotto is the author of The Domino Effect and Outerborough Blue: A Brooklyn Mystery. He has written for numerous publications including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Men’s Journal, Salon.com, the Good Men Project and Teachers and Writers magazine. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School in NYC and he lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Tracy Mitrano: COM 311 Digital Media Culture
Dr. Mitrano is the director of IT Policy and Institute for Computer Policy and Law at Cornell University. She has a doctorate in American Women’s History from Binghamton University and a law degree from Cornell Law School. Currently she is on the boards of the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, Teach Privacy, the Tompkins County Broadband Committee, Tompkins County Public Library and is co-chair of the Hawkins Leadership Roundtable for EDUCAUSE.
Karla Klein Murdock: PS 335 Theories of Personality
Dr. Klein Murdock has been an Associate Professor of Psychology at Washington and Lee University, Virginia since 2005. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1997. She has published numerous articles in academic journals such as: Clinical Psychology Review, the American Journal of Health Behavior and the Journal of Child Health Care.
Elizabeth Ann Lowham: PL 366 International Environmental Politics
Dr. Lowham has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at California Polytechnic State University since 2007. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science in 2007 from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her research focuses on issues of leadership and collaboration.
Donald R. Winslow: JRN/COM 199 Introduction to Photojournalism: On Location in Rome
Prof. Winslow has had a lengthy career as a photojournalist, writer, picture editor, magazine editor, producer, and director of photography. He is currently the National Press Photographers Publications Editor, editing News Photographer magazine, the NPPA website, and the association’s annual book. He is also a producer and a co-founder of New Media for Non Profits, a non-profit charity that does digital storytelling and consulting for other international humanitarian charity organizations.
