Grassroots Takes Part in "Clean Up the World" Environmental Initiative
On Saturday, September 27th, Grassroots club and other members of the JCU community participated in the first edition of “Clean Up Rome,” a volunteer event organized by various UN agencies as part of the global environmental initiative “Clean Up the World.” The location of the clean-up was Parco della Caffarella, a very large, but also quite littered, urban park in Rome.
Equipped with latex gloves, garbage bags and a strong sense of environmental responsibility, over forty volunteers combed the park for trash. While cleaning, participants found litter of every type—plastic bags, cans, bottles, cigarette butts, and even a car tire.
In the end, dozens of bags of trash were sorted and recycled with the help of Rome’s waste management company, AMA. The event was a huge success and left all JCU participants feeling like they had made a small, but significant difference for the local environment.
