The Institute of Creative Writing and Literary Translation Welcomes Author Andrija Matić

On Tuesday, February 3, 2015 the JCU Creative Writing Institute was pleased to host Serbian author Andrija Matić for a presentation of some of his most notable works.
After a warm welcome by former colleague Prof. Carlos Dews, Matić read four excerpts from three of his novels and short stories, including The Museum of Modern Art, and his most recent novel, A Blackout in Five Images (2013).
By way of fusing real events with imaginary characters, the author’s performance took the audience on a journey through the grim and recent history of Serbia, which serves as the dominating theme of his works. Matić concluded the series with a recital of an original snippet from A Blackout in Five Images in Serbian, Matić’s native tongue.
Following the readings, a short Q&A session was opened to the whole audience.
Andrija Matić (1978) was born in Kragujevac, Serbia. He received his Ph. D. in English Literature from the University of Belgrade, Serbia. His novels include A Blackout in Five Images (2013), Manhole (2009), and The Disappearance of Zdenko Kupresanin (2006).
His collection of short stories is entitled The Museum of Modern Art (2010). He is also the author of T. S. Eliot: A Poet, Critic, Playwright (2007). Andrija Matić currently lives in Istanbul, Turkey.
