Summer IFE Site Visit to EXPO 2015 in Milan
On Friday June 19th the Institute for Entrepreneurship was proud to lead 10 JCU students to explore one of the biggest conventions of the world, EXPO 2015 Milan. Throughout our journey among the different pavilions, students engaged in a lively discussion with Prof. Pulino on the benefits and contradictions of this type of event. For instance, while the main theme of Expo is guaranteeing healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, it is very surprising to see McDonald’s as one of the main sponsors and dining providers; leader in the fast food industry, over the years McDonald’s has occasioned much controversy regarding the true authenticity of its “healthy” products. Students were greatly puzzled, wondering what was the real message underneath this decision. On the other hand, at the end of the trip, they all agreed on the magnificence of having more than 140 exhibitors all fighting for a common cause. Although sometimes we do feel so distant from other cultures, walking in the road of Expo you really do feel we all pertain to the same world and that we can fight together to feed the planet.
