Student Margherita Maida Hired as Business Developer for London Start-Up
“My name is Margherita. I am twenty-years-old, from Rome, and I am majoring in Business Administration. One month ago I decided to send my resume to a start-up company in London called Treniq. Through their website, they connect customers with artists and companies that manufacture art and design products, therefore cutting out all intermediaries. They were looking for someone with perfect English and Italian and with a background in Business, so I took the initiative, and after a job interview in London, I was hired! I started working for them as a Business Developer on September 1st, eight months before graduating from college!
While I am still studying in Rome, my job will be to focus on the Italian market. I have been asked to identify Italian designers, artists and companies that will fit well with Treniq and to do some marketing on social media. Once a month I will go to London to meet with my supervisors. I will also be representing Treniq at some international fairs and events in October.
Studying full time while working will not be easy, but I am also not worried. Growing up, my days were always taken up with a myriad of activities, so I learned early on how to multitask.
The personal and academic enrichment I have gained from John Cabot has shaped who I am as a person and who I aspire to become professionally. For example, Professor Signorini’s Marketing class constantly stimulated me to develop a critical approach, and I was able to apply this to many situations, including job interviews. Furthermore, Professor Favorite’s Business Communication class taught me how to write a strong resume that helps me showcase my skills and experiences effectively. Thanks to my resume, I was able to land my first job interview and make a good impression on my current employer, Treniq.”
