JCU Welcomes Democracy Prep Endurance High School Freshmen
On February 15, John Cabot University welcomed 20 freshmen and 5 teachers from Democracy Prep Endurance High School in New York City.
Democracy Prep Public Schools, whose motto is “Work Hard. Go to College. Change the World!” is built on the best practices of high-performing, “no excuses” charter schools with rigorous college-prep academics.
In nine years, Democracy Prep has expanded from one flagship school in Harlem to 17 different elementary, middle, and high schools in New York City; Camden, New Jersey; Washington, D.C.; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The schools educate a total of 5,040 citizen-scholars, mostly from economically disadvantaged households, who will be first-generation college students.
International travel is an important component of the curriculum at Democracy Prep. In addition to Rome, students travel to South America, Korea, and South Africa. The school places a strong emphasis on the importance of college education, organizing visits to college campuses from as early as the freshman year of high school.
JCU Admissions Counselors welcomed the students and chaperones and explained the advantages of earning a degree or studying abroad at an American university in Rome. Student Ambassadors took the students on a tour of both campuses and answered the students’ many questions.
John Cabot University wishes the students at Democracy Prep all the best for their high school career and hopes to welcome them back to Rome in the future.
