Welcome to the Fall 2016 Semester at JCU
The John Cabot University community is pleased to welcome new and returning degree seeking and study abroad students to campus this fall 2016.
With 1,150 students enrolled, this is one of the most diverse groups of students in JCU history. JCU’s new degree seeking students represent 42 countries including Australia, Bolivia, Italy, Jordan, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Russia, and the United States.
Our American degree seekers come from 24 states including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, and Virginia. Our Italian students represent 12 regions in Italy, including Abruzzo, Calabria, Lazio, Sicily, and Veneto.
Our visiting students are traveling to Rome from 40 US states, 17 countries, and 121 universities in Armenia, Egypt, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. We also have nearly 100 freshmen abroad studying with us for a semester or a year as part of partnerships with the University of Delaware, Sacred Heart University, and the University of Southern California.
JCU staff, Orientation Leaders and Skippers greeted students at the Hilton Airport Hotel upon their arrival in Rome on August 23 and 24. Students completed orientation and housing check-in at the Hilton, and were subsequently taken to their new Roman homes by a JCU shuttle bus.
During the five-day Orientation, students participate in sessions designed to introduce them to the University and the Eternal City. Skippers lead their groups through Navigation 101, a tour of Rome which acquaints students with the city center and teaches them how to purchase a public transportation ticket, find their closest pharmacy and supermarket, and discover the quickest route to Rome’s main train station, Termini.
In order to enhance students’ Fall semester experience, the Office of Student Services has prepared a wide variety of activities including Italian cooking classes, tours in Rome, ballet, theater, and opera visits, as well as day and weekend trips to the regions of Campania, Tuscany, Umbria, as well as the Roman countryside. Students will also be able to participate in a variety of exercise classes at the Fitness Center located in the Gianicolo Residence, travel with the JCU Athletics team to hike, bike, and snorkel in Abruzzo, Campania, and Marche, and try out for our soccer, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading teams.
The Orientation team is looking forward to meeting everyone!
