JCU Welcomes Students to Fall 2016 Career Fair
On September 16, over 100 undergraduates and alumni had the chance to meet 40 representatives from 21 companies – Randstand, Rocco Forte Hotels and Marden Entertainment to name a few – offering internships and job positions. The event was filmed by LaEffe, a private television network that is part of SKY Italia.
Due to the increase in both the number of students and participating companies, the Center for Career Services decided to host two Career Fairs during the Fall 2016 semester. The first took place on September 16, and the second will be held on November 11.
The second event (that will host 40 companies) will be more focused on companies interested in offering a full time job to graduating students.
“The representatives were glad to have more time to conduct longer interviews and get to know their prospective interns better,” said Antonella Salvatore, Director of the Center for Career Services.
“Some interviews take longer than others, especially if the company is seriously considering hiring you,” said Communications student Claudia Canovai.
“Students are becoming more and more interested in working with startup companies,” said Paola Pagani, associate of the Institute of Entrepreneurship, “because they get more responsibility this way. They feel like they are truly part of the company, with the possibility to provide real input into the firm’s strategies.” In fact, 20% of the companies at the Career Fair were startups, and the Entrepreneurship Institute is working to bring in about 30 new startups per semester.
According to Federico Virzo, Career Services assistant, “Career Fair #2 will involve many high profile companies such as Coca Cola, Cantel Medical, FAO, and the Vatican Museums. So stay tuned for more updates and be sure to check the Center for Career Services Facebook page!”
