John Cabot University Admitted to CFA® Institute University Affiliation Program

CFA Institute University Affiliation Program
John Cabot University, a CFA Recognized University since 2013, is pleased to announce that it has been admitted to the CFA® Institute University Affiliation Program (UAP). Through cooperation with universities around the world, the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute seeks to promote ethics-based investment education in university degree programs aimed at developing investment professionals.

The University Affiliation Program recognizes academic institutions that embed a significant portion of the CFA® Program Candidate Body of Knowledge™ (CBOK) into their curriculum; at JCU this recognition regards the Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance.

Participation in the CFA Institute UAP signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that John Cabot University curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. As one of the benefits of being a member of the University Affiliation Program, John Cabot will be entitled to assign CFA student scholarships every year. Students who wish to apply for scholarships towards the CFA Examination should contact Dr. Mary Merva, CFA.

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA)
The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) is the most respected and recognized investment management designation in the world. The curriculum covers academic theory, current industry practice, and ethical and professional standards to provide a strong foundation of advanced investment analysis and real-world portfolio management skills. A work experience requirement and an annual attestation to ethics ensure career-long professional excellence by those who have earned the charter.

John Cabot University has seen a growing interest in the program. Four JCU alumni hold the CFA Charter as does the Vice President and Dean of Academics, Dr. Mary Merva.

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance
The B.A. in Economics and Finance provides students with a solid base in the theoretical, quantitative, and analytical skills necessary to pursue further study and careers in economics and finance. The prerequisites and core courses required by the major provide a strong grounding for more advanced study and work. Through appropriate choices of major electives in finance, business, economics, law, mathematics, and political science, students can further develop their expertise. In addition, following the University’s liberal arts tradition of critical-thinking and reflective analysis, the major includes a course on the history of economic thought, so that students may understand and appreciate the continuous development of ideas that shape economic opinions and policy in a dynamic, evolving world.
