JCU Athletics Hosts Gladiators Night and Reveals New Logo
The JCU Athletics department hosted its annual Gladiators Night on Wednesday, October 3 at the Tiber Cafe. Student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff came together to kick off the school year and celebrate the JCU Gladiators.
President Franco Pavoncello began by congratulating the Gladiators on past successes and wished the teams good luck in this new season. Dean of Students Valentina Di Blasi, Student Government President Giovanni Raguso, and Athletics Coordinator Marco Iorio were also on hand to show their support for the teams. Athletics staff member Camilla Di Pietro emceed the event.
JCU Athletics presented a video showing the history of the department and its development throughout the years. The video, created by JCU student Abdul Aboushwesha, ended with the unveiling of the new Gladiator logo, designed by alumnus Lucio D’Alessandro.
The JCU varsity team members were then introduced to the JCU community. The women’s soccer, basketball, men’s soccer, men’s 5vs5 soccer, and volleyball teams, as well as the cheerleading squad, all had their team photos taken with President Pavoncello, Athletics Coordinator Marco Iorio, and JCU mascot Maximus. The event ended with a performance from the cheerleading squad.
After the logo reveal and team presentations, the players and attendees enjoyed music, and dinner provided by the Tiber Cafe. Supporters then headed to Trastevere Stadium for some friendly soccer matches.
The games ended with two victories by JCU men’s soccer and men’s 5vs5 soccer teams, against Università Europea di Roma and Polo Didattico Bambin Gesù, respectively.
The new athletics season is set to begin on November 5.
