Last October, JCU participated in Frankenreads, a global celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. During the month-long event, students, faculty, and staff participated in the live read-a-thon and attended various Frankenstein-themed events. Frankenreads came to an end on Halloween night, with a lecture given by author Fiona Sampson.

JCU Associate Professor of Psychology, Bruno Galantucci, was invited to speak at two international scientific conferences. On October 19, he spoke at the 7th Peripatetic Conference in Poland, while on October 31, he spoke at the "Interrelations Among Different Forms of Human Communication" workshop in Sweden.

JCU English professor Carlos Dews is currently on a lecture tour in Australia on American author Carson McCullers. On November 23, he will be at the University of New South Wales where he will be speaking about his ongoing project editing the Selected Letters of Carson McCullers.
