John Cabot University Celebrates International Women's Week
John Cabot University is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day with a week-long series of events, organized by the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) and the Student Activities Board.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Monday, March 3
12:45 pm – 13:30 pm, T.G.4
“The Rainbow of Feminism” – In collaboration with the Queer Alliance, a discussion on the intersectionalities of feminism.
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Aula Magna Regina
“Women in Academia” Roundtable – An open conversation between JCU faculty members and students about the role of women in academia and the challenges that the face.
Tuesday, March 5
10:30 am – 4:00 pm, Tiber Lobby
Bake Sale – In collaboration with STAND and the Office of Community Service, a bake sale to raise money to purchase menstrual products for women in need.
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Aula Magna Regina
“Women Through the Ages: Looking Back and Moving Forward” – A panel discussion, featuring:
Mariarosy Calleri (filmmaker and Ambassador for women entrepreneurs at the EU). She will discuss the importance of promoting positive and alternative female role models.
Wilma Labate (director and screenwriter): She will discuss the challenges faced by Italian women working in the male-dominated field of cinema.
Sylvia Poggioli (journalist, Senior European Correspondent, National Public Radio). She will discuss the #MeToo movement in the U.S. and Italy.
Vanna Vannuccini (journalist for La Repubblica, specializing in Iran) with Farian Sabahi (author and JCU professor). They will discuss the changing roles of women in Iran.

Tiber Campus
Art Installation and Lunch Celebration – Keep an eye out around campus for WLI’s art installation celebrating JCU’s female-identifying faculty and staff! Also stop by the Tiber Café for some yummy, feminist food!
Thursday, March 7
12:45 pm – 2:30 pm, Aula Magna Regina
“Parenting isn’t Just for Women” – Discussion among students, faculty, and staff about parenting and its gendered aspects. Everyone is welcome!
3:00 pm – 5:30 pm, Tiber Cafe
Protest Party – Party to prepare for the International Women’s Day of Action March in Rome, complete with protest poster-making, snacks, and fun!
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm, Aula Magna Regina
Soufra film screening – Organized by the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Soufra tells the amazing story of social entrepreneur and refugee, Mariam Shaar. Food to be served!
Friday, March 8
12:45 pm – 2:00 pm, Lemon Tree Courtyard
International Women’s Day of Action! A celebration featuring poetry, speakers, food, and love. All are welcome! Followed by the Women’s Day march.
