The Future of Space Economy: a Panel Discussion
On March 27, 2019, John Cabot University hosted a panel presentation and networking event on the future of space economy organized by the Canadian Chamber in Italy. Moderated by Professor Francesco Lapenta (Director of the JCU Institute of Future and Innovation Studies), the event was opened by a welcome by the President of John Cabot University Franco Pavoncello, with Consul and First Secretary of the Embassy of Canada in Italy Allison Catmur and Jose Salgado, President of the Canadian Chamber in Italy.
The panel discussion featured distinguished guests Giulio Ranzo, CEO, Avio. Giuseppe Aridon, Senior Vice President Strategy and Competitive Analysis, Telespazio. Ursula Castillo Guevara, Researcher, European Space Policy Institute. Nino Pace, Director Consulting Services, CGI Italy and Gerardo Lancia, Clusters, Community & Network Executive Lead, Lazio Innova. The panel discussed the future prospects of the new flourishing space economy, the many innovations now critical to most organizations that have already resulted from space R&D, and the chances for many future innovations to be developed in space. Some of the possible negative consequences of space exploration were also discussed, such as space debris, as well as geopolitical and economic dimensions.
