The purpose of the conference is to provide an international discussion forum for research in the economics and management of networks. This event aims to contribute to expanding our understanding of the development, extension, and integration of traditional and new theoretical perspectives on the governance of franchise networks, alliances, cooperatives and networks in digital platform businesses.

Complementary to these research-oriented discussions, the plenary session will bring together industry representatives, researchers, and other stakeholders to identify the opportunities and challenges of digitalization for interfirm networks. Participants will discuss the impact that digitalization – for instance Cloud Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Blockchain – will have on the management, organization, and restructuring of the business model of interfirm networks, as well as on the creation of new franchise products and services.

Possible discussion topics for the plenary session include:

1) the impact of digitalization on:

  • the development of new product and service offerings
  • the re-structuring of value chain functions of the business model
  • decision making between network partners
  • contract design (e.g., smart contracts)
  • knowledge transfer in networks
  • the relationship between franchisee-owned outlets and company-owned outlets
  • monitoring and control
  • the dependency and bargaining power between network partners

2) The digital platform in the organization design of networks in the future

John Cabot University’s involvement in the organization of the plenary session was made possible thanks to Professor Maria Jell-Ojobor, who is part of the conference’s Organizing Committee, and who joined JCU’s Business Administration Department in Spring 2023.

The participation fee from Thursday, September 14, to Friday September 15, is 150 euros (or 230 euros including the conference dinner on Friday). Participation on Saturday is free of charge.
