JCU Kicks Off Spring 2024 Triggering Change Pitch Competition

March 18, 2024, marked the beginning of a journey into sustainability for John Cabot University and Richmond students, with the start of the Triggering Change Pitch competition. This competition, aimed at fostering creative solutions for pressing global issues, invites students to engage directly with the challenges and potential solutions of two UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Triggering Change Pitch Competition

Each edition of the Triggering Change Pitch Competition focuses on different SDGs, and this Spring 2024 semester the chosen SDGs are Gender Equality (SDG 5) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

The competition encourages students to develop and present concise, powerful two-minute pitches, where they are challenged to identify specific issues within this year’s Sustainable Development Goals and craft creative solutions that can make a real difference. It is an exceptional opportunity for students to showcase their understanding of complex world issues, demonstrate their innovative thinking, and contribute actively to the global sustainability agenda.

The competition kicks off with the first Prep Session titled “Triggering Change: Purpose and Expectations,” led by student Davide Ebraheem, past Triggering Change winner and current member of the selection committee. This session aims to familiarize participants with the competition’s goals and the steps ahead until April 12, the submission day.

Starting from the first Prep Session and in the other three Prep Sessions scheduled, participants will engage with the two SDGs and will learn how to inspire change towards sustainability. These sessions are structured to progressively build participants’ understanding and skills, covering essential topics such as effective communication of ideas, understanding the criteria for impactful solutions, and how to translate abstract concepts into actionable plans. By the end of these sessions, students will be equipped to compete and to carry forward the principles of sustainability in their future endeavors.
