Professor Sorgner to Speak at "Romanae Disputationes" Lecture

JCU’s Professor Stefan Lorenz Sorgner will hold a thought-provoking lecture (in Italian) titled The Crisis of Values in Postmodernity.” The event will be part of the XII edition of Romanae Disputationes, a series of philosophical discussions exploring this year’s theme, What Are Values? The Genesis and Experience of What Matters.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 12 pm, in the Aula Magna of Liceo Nomentano, (Via della Bufalotta 229, Rome). It is hosted by Amore per il Sapere and the Istituto Gianni Vattimo, in collaboration with Liceo Nomentano, and is open to all, particularly secondary school students and educators.

The Romanae Disputationes Lecture Series

The Romanae Disputationes lecture series has a history of featuring distinguished thinkers who have shaped contemporary debates on ethics, values, and society. Past speakers include Luciano Floridi, whose pioneering work in the philosophy of information has transformed our understanding of the digital age, and Massimo Cacciari, one of Italy’s foremost intellectuals, renowned for his reflections on modernity and politics. Their participation underscores the prestige and relevance of this initiative, as well as the importance of Professor Sorgner’s innovative approach to the pressing questions of our time.

Professor Sorgner, a leading voice in posthuman philosophy, will address the profound challenges and opportunities posed by the postmodern condition, where traditional frameworks for understanding values are being radically redefined. His lecture promises to engage the audience in a compelling dialogue about the evolution and experience of what we hold dear in an age of rapid transformation.
