Arianna Catti De Gasperi and Prof. Argentieri Speak at Public EU 60th Anniversary Event
On Friday March 24, 2017, a FaceBook group composed of pro-Europe professionals organized a “European Party” in the courtyard of beautiful Palazzo Spada, just across the river from JCU, on the eve of the Rome Treaties’ 60th anniversary.
Several people took the floor to celebrate the birth of what became the European Union: diplomats, economists, actors. JCU’s Associate Director of International Admissions Arianna Catti De Gasperi read excerpts from her great grandfather’s writings. Alcide De Gasperi (1881-1954) is viewed as Italy’s greatest politician of the 20th century and one of the EU’s founding fathers. Professor Federigo Argentieri contributed a short reflection on Central-East European member and non member states and their relationship to European values and identity. A string quartet composed of «Millennials», junior members-at-large of John Cabot Chamber Orchestra, accompanied the evening.
