John Cabot University Celebrates the Class of 2020
Congratulations to John Cabot University’s Class of 2020! JCU’s 48th Commencement was scheduled to take place at Villa Aurelia, the ceremony’s traditional venue on the Janiculum Hill overlooking the city of Rome. Unfortunately, however, the Covid-19 crisis has compelled the University to postpone the ceremony to a future date.
President Franco Addresses Class of 2020
President Franco Pavoncello recorded his address to the Class of 2020 from JCU’s Lemon Tree Courtyard, one of JCU students’ favorite spots on the Guarini Campus.
“You are a very special class. You are brilliantly concluding your undergraduate studies during one of the most difficult times humanity has faced in the past century, a dramatic historical moment that has seen a global pandemic shut down the entire world.”
“You are graduating from a vibrant liberal arts university, embarked on a journey of growth and excellence. Here you have acquired many fundamental skills that have changed you and enriched you deeply. You have been challenged to reason analytically, to engage with the world around you and learn from its past events and future challenges; to appreciate the importance of dialogue across culture, and of one’s own traditions, and to serve as outstanding, intelligent leaders of the world you are called to build in the future years. “
“These past few months have taught you that life and freedom are wonderful gifts, which must be constantly nurtured, protected, and appreciated. They also taught you, in both good and frustrating ways, that we live in a global society, in a single living organism called Earth, where events on one side of the world can affect everyone else. You have also learned that humanity can come together to face challenges in which we are all invested, and that this unity of purpose can be a truly exhilarating source of change and hope. Make treasure of those lessons, you saw them unfolding in front of your very eyes, and I am sure they will accompany you for the rest of your life.”
