JCU Launches Student-led Wellness Ambassadors Program
John Cabot University’s Office of Health and Wellbeing has just launched the Wellness Ambassadors program, which consists of a dynamic group of undergraduate students who will help enhance campus wellness through peer-led initiatives. The ambassadors will be trained to design and spearhead events and activities aimed at improving access to resources, reducing stigma, fostering a supportive community, and empowering informed health and wellness choices.
With a focus on health promotion, the program seeks to encourage holistic wellbeing across all aspects of students’ lives, including limiting drug and alcohol consumption, fostering healthy relationships, and maintaining mental and physical wellbeing.
“We want our students to know that they can reach out to us for help,” says Camilla Alessi, Assistant Director of Health and Wellbeing. “There’s a support system available to them, and hopefully initiatives like this will help everyone learn some valuable life skills about how to take care of themselves and their wellbeing.”
The Requirements to Become a Wellness Ambassador
To be eligible, students must be degree-seeking, aged 18 or older, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have completed at least two semesters at JCU. Applicants must also hold a valid permit to stay, or an Italian/EU ID and an Italian codice fiscale. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a passion for promoting wellness, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to collaborate in a team.
Ambassadors will undergo the NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training, which focuses on developing skills to successfully lead health and wellness initiatives. They will dedicate four hours a week to their work, contributing to awareness campaigns, tabling activities, and other related events. The program will help ambassadors develop their leadership abilities while creating a positive impact on campus culture, shaping a more informed and health-conscious student body.
