JCU's Summer School on Migration and Human Rights

John Cabot University and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) are pleased to announce the fifth edition of the Summer School on Migration and Human Rights.

This year, the session will run from July 11 to 15.

The Summer School is intended for university graduates in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Social Science or candidates with equivalent and relevant qualifications, and for young professionals working in governmental institutions, local authorities, international organizations or NGOs. Applications from students who expect to graduate at the end of the 2015/2016 academic year will also be considered.

This five day intensive summer school has been developed to provide participants with an analysis of the legal, social and human rights issues that surround migration. The internationally recognised expert faculty is composed of leading scholars and academics from John Cabot and other universities, representatives of the United Nations system, international human rights bodies and the civil society.

Confirmed lecturers include:

  • Alberto Cervone – Rear Admiral (ret) Italian Navy
  • Guy Goodwin Gill – Professor of Public International Law at Oxford University and Emeritus Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford
  • Monica Lomena-Gelis – Project Coordinator, Global Mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
  • Pamela Harris – Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at John Cabot University
  • Elisenda Estruch Puertas – Labour Economist, Social Policies and Rural Institutions Division, Economic and Social Department, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • Cristina Rapone – Rural Employment Specialist, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • Silvia Scarpa – Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science at John Cabot University
  • Barbara Terenzi – Coordinator of the Human Rights Promotion and Protection Committee, International Volunteer Service for Development (VIS)
