The International Interfaith Scholar speaker series is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See. The series aims to bring major public figures working on issues of faith, dialogue and peace, to a public round table setting with students at John Cabot.

On Wednesday, September 16, the John Cabot Interfaith Initiative welcomed Archbishop Sir David Moxon, the diplomatic appointment of the Anglican Church to the Holy See, as its first International Scholar Speaker of the academic year. The discussion focused on the struggle against modern slavery and human trafficking from an ecumenical and Interfaith perspective.

The Archbishop shared in the leadership of a joint interreligious initiative against human trafficking, a problem that affects approximately 30 million people.

The antislavery ecumenical and multi-faith network, then known as the
Global Freedom Network brought together religious leaders from the world’s major religions and, drawing on principles of human rights and faith, has successfully created a universal declaration against human trafficking and modern slavery. December 2014 marked the first interfaith meeting of this network at the Vatican and the signing of the joint declaration by Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish and Muslim leaders. A new version of this antislavery network is expected to emerge, after some adjustment of protocols and membership.
