Alumna Diana Mastrodomenico Founds Literary Magazine "Lotus-eater"

Congratulations to John Cabot University alumna Diana Mastrodomenico on the launch of Lotus-eater, an online literary magazine that she created and edited. The aim of the Rome-based magazine is to publish prose, poetry, interviews, and reviews in the English language and translations from the best contemporary Italian writing.

The first issue features works by JCU professors Daniel Roy Connelly, Carlos Dews, and Elizabeth Geoghegan, student Tony Mastroianni, and alumnus Victor Xavier Zarour.

Diana, who hails from Rome, graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Literature in January of 2014. “I chose JCU because I wanted to read the original versions of literary works and have English and American professors teaching them,” she explains. “But JCU gave me so much more. Professors such as Alessandra Grego, Shannon Russell, Carlos Dews, Elizabeth Geoghegan, and Daniel Roy Connelly supported me and helped me
discover what I wanted to do in life. Without them, I wouldn’t have become so passionate about literature and writing, nor could I have found the courage to realize such an ambitious project together with my friends and colleagues Chiara Patrizi and Marco Costantini.”

“After graduation, I started working as an editor and it struck me that there was a huge community of writers living and working in Rome and yet no literary magazine that could work as a bridge to connect the two cultures,” says Diana, explaining how the idea for Lotus-eater was born. “We hope people will enjoy the magazine and submit writing to us as well!”
