Walk a Mile

President Pavoncello cuts the ribbon

For the first time in Rome and in Italy, the famous walk against gender violence, “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” took place in the Caracalla Stadium on October 25th, with the participation of an enthusiastic group of men of all ages and nationalities.

The event was promoted by the JCU Ipazia Club, with the collaboration of the Women’s Leadership Club, the Grassroots Club, the Theater Society, the Business Club, Student Government and the Alumni Association.

The support of the JCU Administration was felt throughout the organization of the event. On the day of the walk it became even more evident thanks to the inspiring speech and the outstanding performance of President Franco Pavoncello. The President underlined the importance of addressing the issue of gender violence and rape openly at all levels, as silence is our worst enemy. He then proceeded to cut the ribbon that opened the march and walked the entire mile, clearly in high heels!

This was also an occasion to fund-raise for the Pangea Foundation and in particular for its shelters for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The event was at the same time fun and emotionally charged, as the motivation for the initiative was clear and shared by the entire group. A big thank you to all of those who supported this initiative, which the students hope will be the first of many.
