Peter Strekfus and Heather Green Give Poetry Reading at JCU
Peter Strekfus and Heather Green
On Tuesday, June 3rd the Institute for Creative Writing and Literary Translation presented a poetry reading by Peter Strekfus and Heather Green in the Aula Magna Regina. The married couple has been in Rome since October 2013, as Strekfus is completing his literary fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.
Green read poems inspired by her time in Rome, which she regrets is ending in June. She also shared her inspirations from poets David Foster Wallace and Tristan Tzara. She closed with an ode to Rome, a poem she calls “Oh, to Live in the Acropolis.”
Strekfus read poems from his published poetry books The Cuckoo and Errings. He also shared excerpts from his work-in-progress, Patrimony, which is an elegy to his father. Strekfus’ father was also a writer, and the poet has taken pages from his father’s novel and rearranged them to create original poems.
After the readings, both poets answered questions from the audience.
