Italy Writes 2013 Winners Receive Awards from Jhumpa Lahiri
You are invited to visit the John Cabot University Vimeo channel where you can find the video recording of the June 20th Italy Writes Award Ceremony. This year, John Cabot University’s Institute for Creative Writing and Literary Translation Writer in Residence Jhumpa Lahiri presented awards to the 6 finalists. Ms Lahiri, who received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2000, composed and read a message especially for the winners of Italy Writes 2013 and has kindly allowed us to share this video with you.
Italy Writes, an annual English language creative writing contest for Italian high school students launched in 2012, grew out of the successful Italy Reads program. Included on its panel of judges are professors from one of America’s most highly-ranked creative writing centers, the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program.
Now in its 5th year of activity, Italy Reads is proud to announce that it has received support from the Embassy of the United States in Italy in recognition of excellence as an English language reading and cultural exchange program which provides professional development for teachers of English and opportunities for cultural exchange for Italian high school and JCU students.
Italy Reads 2013 activities will focus on Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake. We’re looking forward to another exciting year!
