President Franco Pavoncello Attends NIAF Awards Gala
The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, Italy’s National Academy of Sciences, was honored at the National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF) 37th Anniversary Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. on October 13th.
The National Italian American Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational foundation that promotes Italian American culture and heritage. Its programs include scholarships, grants, heritage travel, and mentoring.
The NIAF award was assigned to the Accademia for its scientific and cultural activity and for its work promoting Italian culture in the world.
The President of the Accademia dei Lincei, Lamberto Maffei, attended the Gala, accompanied by members Mario Stefanini and Emilio Bizzi, as well as by John Cabot University President Franco Pavoncello.
President Lamberto Maffei thanked NIAF for this award “which constitutes an important recognition of the activity that the Accademia carries out for the promotion and diffusion of science and of Italian culture in the world.”
President Pavoncello, who is “Amico ad honorem” (Friend for Special Merits) of the Accademia, endorsed this important recognition of the Lincei, which was founded in 1603 and is the world’s oldest academy.
“With this award,” affirmed President Pavoncello, “Italian-Americans wish to thank the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and President Maffei for the role that this prestigious institution plays in Italy and the world. The Accademia, whose most famous member was Galileo Galilei, is for NIAF the symbol of Italian versatility and pride.”
The Accademia dei Lincei is located in the beautiful Villa Farnesina, located right next door to John Cabot University.
