JCU Welcomes Elaine Panter of the Protection Project

In a public lecture held on March 28, 2012 Ms Elaine Panter, Director of Programs and Planning at The Protection Project, addressed the issue of preventing trafficking in persons and protecting victims in Jordan and Lebanon through public awareness programming engaging religious leaders and civil society.

Ms Panter was connected with students at John Cabot through Skype from Washington DC. The lecture was introduced by JCU Professor of Political Science Silvia Scarpa, author of the book Trafficking in Human Beings: Modern Slavery (Oxford University Press, 2008), and was held as a JCU 40th Anniversary Event.

Ms. Elaine Panter conducts research, analysis and programs on human rights and access to justice in the Middle East and coordinates various programs on comparative and international criminal law both in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining The Protection Project, she worked on humanitarian assistance programs with various human rights organizations in Burma, Thailand, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Haiti.

The Protection Project is a human rights institute based at The Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC.
