JCU Welcomes USUN Rome Senior Staff for Guest Lecture
On November 16th, 2011, John Cabot University welcomed senior staff members of the US Mission to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agencies (USUN Rome) to discuss the functions of three Rome-based United Nations agencies, namely the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The event was attended by JCU students taking course PL 212 – International Organizations, taught by Professor Federigo Argentieri.
USUN senior staff members Michael Michener and Elisabeth Kvitashvili illustrated the three organizations’ operations and knowledge specialties, with a particular emphasis on how FAO, WFP and IFAD are all active in the goal to achieve global food security, even more so today, in the face of a growing world population and increasing demands.
The lecture ended with an informative question-and-answer session, during which the students’ comments showed their keen interest and excellent awareness of the organizations.
