Media Tools to Empower Women: Students Produce Documentaries on Feminist Ideals

This summer, the students of the ‘DMA 322 Digital Storytelling and Community Engagement’ course had the opportunity to collaborate with the Casa Internazionale Delle Donne (International Women’s House), a self-financed not-for-profit organization that works on promoting the rights, culture, knowledge, experiences and policies produced by and for women. They produced three short documentaries.

John Cabot University, in cooperation with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), organized the fourth edition of the Summer Course on Migration and Human Rights, which took place from the 15th to the 19th of July. The aim of the course is to equip post-graduate students and young professionals with legal, social, scientific and theoretical tools to better understand and tackle the growing challenges of international migration.

The event was moderated by Eduardo Albrecht, an alumnus of John Cabot University, now professor at Mercy College in New York City and part of the Guarini Institute advisory council.

After graduating in International Affairs and History from JCU in 1999, Eduardo Albrecht earned his M.A. in Anthropology of Development and Ph.D. in Anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies University of London. Eduardo currently teaches in New York City. In recent years Eduardo has been involved in JCU through his affiliation to the Guarini Institute.

JCU student and artist Anna Maria Gehnyei, also known as Karima 2G, was invited to a panel discussion on human rights and women’s rights called “Diritti Umani e Diritti delle Donne, incontro con Ndileka Mandela” on July 5, 2019. The guest speaker was Ndileka Mandela, granddaughter of the anti-apartheid activist and former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
