JCU's STAND Fund-Raising Concert for Honduras Raises 1100 Euros
On Wednesday, February 15th, the John Cabot University community came together in support of a worthy cause with a student-hosted, fund-raising concert for Mission Lazarus, an NGO based in Honduras. Located near the capital, Tegucigalpa, the NGO provides assistance with education, agricultural support and medical care, as well as a home for orphaned children.
The concert – titled “Sorreasy for Honduras” – was organized by John Cabot University’s STAND (Students Taking Action Now Darfur) club, and featured performances by student band “Sorreasy,” made up of JCU’s very own students Riccardo Vitalone, who came up with the idea of the concert, and Alessandro Minissi (who joined JCU as part of the Università degli Studi di Milano dual degree program).
With an excellent turnout from students, staff and faculty members alike, they managed to raise an excellent €550 with ticket sales and donations. John Cabot University President Franco Pavoncello promised to match the funds raised by the event, which means that this week, JCU will transfer a total of €1100 to the Mission Lazarus foundation through their website.
Riccardo Vitalone will be going to the mission on February 22nd, accompanying a medical team headed by his father Dr. Vittorio Vitalone, and will be working in the orphanage himself for two weeks. He was extremely happy with the outcome of the event: “The funds we raised will mostly be spent to purchase medicines and to support the Mission Lazarus orphanage. This event could not have been possible without the help of STAND, Student Services Manager Pilar Murguia, Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs Andrea Lanzone, Director of Marketing Danette Anderson and Web Communications Coordinator Berenice Cocciolillo.”
