Dean Mary Merva Speaks on Empowering Women in the Euro-Mediterranean Region at International Forum

On June 26, 2014, JCU Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs Mary Merva spoke at the international forum “For a New Euro-Mediterranean: Perspectives for Cooperation, Integration, and Development.” The forum took place at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the Salone di Palazzo Cornaro in Rome.

Topics of discussion. During the fourth and final International Forum, the topics of discussion were inter-religious dialogue, education, job creation, and women’s empowerment. Ambassador Fathallah Sijilmassi, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, introduced the session by recognizing the importance of European-Mediterranean cooperation, especially in light of the Italian Presidency to the European Union.

Goals of the forum. The aim of the International Forum was to stimulate a wide-scale debate toward the development of proposals for economic development, integration and stability within the Euro-Mediterranean region. The forum was a follow-up on past sessions in Barcelona and Rome.

JCU’s Contribution. As part of its mission to promote American liberal arts education, John Cabot University is pleased to contribute towards development within the Euro-Mediterranean region.
