Professor Belényesi Participates in the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Energy and Research
On January 20th, JCU Lecturer in Economics and Business Administration Pal Belényesi participated as organizer and speaker at a workshop on digital economies, digital markets and internet giants in the 21st century. The event took place during the European Parliament’s Industry, Energy and Research Committee and was well attended by Parliament members and followed on the web.
Professor Belényesi participated in a prestigious panel of world-known experts on competition, telecoms and digital markets. He spoke about the business models that successful start-ups and existing digital giants adopt, the role of the consumers in shaping markets, and the possible ways for the European Union to form innovation-driven internet-based services.
The outcome of the discussions suggested that European industries must change their attitudes and be more proactive and innovative. Belényesi pointed out that operators of traditional telecommunication service providers should alter their business models and partner up with complementary digital service providers in order to rationalize revenue streams. The panel concluded that European industries should react to changing market conditions and consumer preferences without the usual conservative delay.
