On Friday, February 3, 2017 the JCU Center for Career Services welcomed students and alumni to the first Career Fair of the Spring 2017 semester. “The Career Fair represents a unique opportunity for students not only to get internships and jobs, but also to empower their professional networks,” said Prof. Antonella Salvatore, Director of the Center for Career Services. The Center achieved partnerships with 440 companies and organizations. Some of these companies are: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Fintecna, Hays Response, The British School at Rome, US Embassy, Amnesty International, Europcar, Croce Rossa, Dorothy Circus Gallery, and Rocco Forte Hotels.

Marianna Occhiuto, a JCU alumna, participated in the event to interview students for Casa Scalabrini 634, where Occhiuto is Head of Fundraising and Communications. Casa Scalabrini 634 is a Rome-based company that welcomes refugees, promotes integration with the local community, and helps them apply for citizenship.“What I learned from John Cabot is, never stop looking, never stop moving, and whatever you do, do it at your best,” she said.

“The last interview I had was intense. They asked me about my biggest work challenge, which was really hard to narrow down,” said recent graduate Isabella Barletta. Her advice to those interested in attending the next Career Fair this semester was to “have a specific idea of what you want to do, because they will ask you.”

Francesca Proietti Career Fair

It was Communications student Francesca Proietti’s  first time attending a Career Fair and she knew what she wanted. “I was looking for my first interview experience. I wanted to learn what to say and how to face this kind of situation in the future.” As a first time attendee, she encouraged others to come to the next Career Fair and also shared advice she learned from Professor Salvatore at a recent workshop. “Research the companies, because if you don’t know about them, it will be hard to answer questions,” she said.

Each semester the Center for Career Services offers several seminars to give students tips on how to get an internship, to introduce them to the job market, to prepare them for interviews, and to give them advice on how to write cover letters and resumes.
