Cover of The Sour Fruit - Lord Byron, Love and Sex, by Vincenzo PatanèJohn Cabot University Press and Rowman & Littlefield are pleased to announce the publication of The Sour Fruit. Lord Byron, Love and Sex by Byron specialist Vincenzo Patanè and edited by John Cabot University  professor James R. Schwarten.

In Professor Patanè’s words, “I am proud to have one of my books published in English by John Cabot University Press. I hope it will be as successful as the original version in Italian, I frutti acerbi. Lord Byron, gli amori & il sesso.”

Both Lord Byron’s poetry and his fame as a seducer enchanted and scandalized his time. The Sour Fruit. Lord Byron, Love & Sex examines the poet’s versatile sexuality, from his liaisons to his grand loves, female and above all male, in an era when homosexuality could lead to the gallows.

The Keats-Shelley House in Rome will host a book presentation with the author this spring (T.B.A.), and John Cabot University will be pleased to welcome Professor Patanè in Fall 2019.

James Schwarten, lecturer in Italian and Italian Studies, has research interests in Italian language and literature, translation, and sociology. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently teaching Contemporary Italian Narrative, Sociology of Southern Italy, and Contemporary Italian Society.
