JCU to Offer Remote Course in English Language for University Studies in Spring 2021
John Cabot University is pleased to announce that the English Language for University Studies (ENLUS-2) course will be offered remotely in Spring 2021, following the success of the Fall 2020 online course.
The ENLUS program offers intensive classes in academic English to those students whose level of proficiency does not yet qualify them for entry to the University (see English Proficiency Requirements for Admissions to JCU).
“The experience of teaching ENLUS remotely has been very positive,” says Professor Silvia Ammary, Coordinator of ENLUS. “This Fall, remote synchronous learning has allowed students from Italy, Venezuela, and Israel to interact in real-time, thus helping to alleviate the sense of isolation that can come from distance learning models that do not offer this kind of interaction. Our ENLUS virtual classroom not only replicates the physical classroom experience, but it also improves upon it by offering additional collaborative tools that foster active learning, such as breakout rooms which encourage practice and discussion, a digital whiteboard for interactivity, and screen sharing, which allows students and teachers to follow the same material and content on their computers. Most importantly, I think students feel an increased sense of the instructor actually ‘being there,’ especially because we also have live chats and office hours for students who need more help or simply want more practice,” added Professor Ammary.
The benefit of taking ENLUS remotely is that it enables students from both Italy and the rest of the world to raise their level of English, without having to travel or commute during the Covid outbreak. It is also useful for anyone who would like to boost their level of English from the comfort of their home without necessarily pursuing a degree at JCU.
